Simply Speaking, it is an act of “Consciously” eliminating a certain feeling or wants. Therefore someone is “Acknowledging” that he or she is aware of that feeling and deliberately making an effort not to dwell on it.
For example:
What you hated the most is being shouted. Then in one instance your professor loudly nagged at you due to a minor error you committed on the project you submitted. Instead of aggressively confronting the professor you decided to let it slide and took back your project for revision.
Since you are aware of what you hated the most you tried not to negatively react on it by letting it slide.
Let us proceed to Repression. It is a subconsciously rejecting the negative feeling or impulses without “Acknowledging” it. Therefore, we are not even aware of the fact that the stimuli could negatively impact us.
Why? There are multiple factors on why our mind does that. There are times that our mind was wired to do it due to a negative view of a certain impulse. This could be due to culture, societal view, or even personal preference. Since we have emotions, we tend to care for the emotions of people around us. Instead of aggressively reacting to certain feelings or situation our mind automatically rejects the stimuli.
What is the difference between the two?
They are both defense mechanism that involves rejecting the impulses or stressor compared to Suppression that involves the conscious level, in Repression, it involves our subconscious.
What are the repercussions?
We have this concept of limitations. These are the sets of levels that tell how much we can do or what we can take. If negative emotions are bottled up, when it comes to suppression there might be a certain time that we may burst out of anger or demonstrate being hurt. Whereas repression might cause more primitive forms of the same which are much more difficult to deal with in a constructive manner. Repressed Anger can take on a general and primitive form of bitterness and resentment towards a person without the knowledge of it.
What are ways easing up the bottled anger and stress?

It’s completely normal that we don’t want to hurt others due to the stress and other negative emotions that we are facing. There are healthy ways to cope up with stress and once in a while, you need to take time and engage in those activities that will help you lessen stress.
